Haunted Humpday and a few prizes

Welcome back!

How was your week??

I would like to thank everyone  for visiting my party..

And thank you for letting me in on your King memories/favorite books,

I was beyond excited to read everyone's comments.

We went to watch the NUN..

I really enjoyed it..I love to go watch a scary movie

that actually makes me jump.

I was very creeped out...
so much so, that I was nervous AFTER the movie ended. 

When were walking out of the theater I thought I could hear rustling 

behind us, even though we were the last ones out.

So, whenever I go grocery shopping, I'm always on the lookout
for Halloween themed food..
Some of them are so cute..
I remember finding jack-o- lantern macaroni and cheese one year!
For now, all I could find were cookies and cereal...

We created some spooky crafts using a couple of Lisa Kettell's embellishments.
This is a Halloween Frankenstein , which I attached to a wooden heart
that's covered over in paper and fabric paint.

This is Helena's ATC
She used a sugar skull embellishment, ribbon and glow in the dark paint.

Ready for a story?
I do believe there is a slight chill in the air lately..in the wee hours anyway....
So gather close..

This is a story about a girl named Wendy.
When she was about ten years old, her parents divorced.
Her mother went from working part time, to full time.
That meant that she had to spend at least four nights a week at her grandmother's.
She loved her grandmother but hated her house,
it was old, drafty and creepy.
Every time she stayed the night, her grandmother would come in right before bed
and ask her if she had said her prayers.
afterwards, she'd tuck her in and say goodnight.
One night, she got in bed and fell asleep right away.
 Her grandmother went up to check on her,
but she was so deeply asleep, she just let her have her rest.
Wendy said she woke up just after one a.m.
she could hear a persistent clicking coming from the corner..
Since the window was open and the moon was lighting up the room, she turned over
and tried to find what the source of the noise was.
 High up on the wall, in the corner was a creature..
She said it was pale and bluish.
there were horns on its head..like a ram.
It had a longish tail and it was clinging to the wall about 5 feet up,
 watching her with bright reflective eyes.
the clicking sound were it's teeth..it looked like they were chattering.
She said she could hear a strange faint whispering, then realized that it
was talking to her..
 She closed her eyes and began to  pray
Gradually the noise stopped and when she looked up, it was gone.

She's older now, in her early fifties, and insists it was a demon..
& she doesn't know why it happened.
Her grandmother had the house blessed soon after and she never saw it again.

okay, this one was pretty weird..what do you think it was?

It's very late and I'm spooked..I think it's time to put out the fire and get to bed!

Haunted Humpdays are here again!

Welcome to the 3rd annual

I've really been looking forward to this time of year.

Been on the lookout for the first pumpkins of the season to reach the grocery stores.

We always get one and carve it right away.

If you add powdered cinnamon and nutmeg to the inside lid,

 it smells incredible once the candle is lit!!! 

  Haven't found the pumpkins yet but I did find these,

Last week

I took Helena with me to the apartment office to get a parcel :-)

It was gorgeously overcast & sprinkling...

on our way she started picking up as many pine-cones

as she could hold...

one of the guys in the office was kind enough to offer us a

plastic bag for her to use...

well she ended up bringing around 40 pine-cones home!

She kept going back for them, because she felt bad for the ones left behind.

This is what became of some of them...

 

Next week I'll show you the 

pine-cone Bigfoot she's putting together.

If you know me, even just a little bit, you know

that it's always Halloween around here.

We use any and all  happy occasions 

to have a Halloween 'party'

I've always been this way.

even if it's just a few creepy stories

or a drive out to a local 'haunted' area.

If it's creepy, I like it and it puts me in a festive mood.

Especially with books.

I remember being around 8 or so and reading books

I wasn't supposed to be reading.

If it was in the bookshelf, I read it.

My mother tried buying me books

she deemed age appropriate.

one of them was this one..

It was pretty good...it wasn't the Amityville Horror, but I enjoyed it.

Twin girls buy an old trunk at an auction and find a Ouija board inside under

a bunch of scraps of fabric.

One girl gets hooked playing it

and she becomes possessed.

Yup, I was eight when I read it:)

I'm guessing my mom didn't read the back of the book.

It was for kids though.

Anyhow, good overcame evil...so it had a positive ending.

 It's funny how the Ouija design is so popular,

I have a story about a Ouija

from an old Haunted Humpday

 here, 

if you're interested. 

 When I was fifteen I had an actual Ouija board...

A friend of mine would come over and we'd ask it all the usual sillyquestions.

There was one 'spirit' that seemed to hate my friend,

It would tell him it was going to kill him and it would curse at him endlessly.

My friend often accused me of manipulating the planchette, 

But I never did...

I ended up throwing it out one morning after a few weeks

of feeling the end of my bed move,

 sort of like when an animal jumps up on it.

Since I had stored the board under my mattress, it kind of 

freaked me out a little. 

Unfortunately, I didn't cover up the board when I threw it out..

when my mom went later to add some trash to the bin.. she saw it.

 After She lectured me on the evils of the board,

she told me a story about my uncle's best friend...and why I should never use

any kind of spirit board again.

Now come sit here next to me...

if we're close enough, we shouldn't get too scared.

according to my uncle

this happened when he was around twelve.

One night

His friend Joe, decided to 'borrow' his older sister's Ouija board.

They brought it out late one night...it was a small group of kids, 

including my uncle, Joe, 

Joe's younger brother and a couple of older cousins.

They started off asking if there was anyone there...it didn't repond..

they asked it if it wanted to speak to them...no answer...

after a while of this, they got bored and started taunting the 'spirits'

mocking them and laughing loudly at their own jokes.

Joe decided it might be fun to burn the board.

He got up and went to grab the board off the table

when they heard a tapping at the kitchen window.

Tap

Tap

They turned to look and of course didn't see anything.

another three taps rang out of the darkness 

this time on the ceiling above them.

all of a sudden

the board fell off the table and struck Joe's brother.

He got up and ran towards his parent's bedroom. 

Joe stopped him before he could wake them and get them all in trouble.

The board was put away and everyone got ready for bed..trying to 

pretend that nothing had happened.

The next day

my uncle went home and life resumed..

He didn't see his friend for at least a month..

by then he had heard that Joe's brother had been killed

by their own father.

It seems that they were all on their way to a family gathering and

the youngest was told to go open the gates to the driveway.

Their dad backed out but did not see his son and ran him over.  

When my uncle finally spoke to Joe he got 

 more detail on the days and nights leading up to 

the death.

Joe said that for a couple of weeks his brother

was having nightmares 

& he'd wake up screaming.

He kept saying the evil had marked him 

and was coming for him.

His dreams included playing with the board 

and seeing a strange creature hovering over constantly.

 The day before he died, he'd told told Joe that he 

felt like he was going to die soon.

I guess my mom told me this story

to scare me...I found it morbid and sad.

It must have worked because

I never played with a Ouija again.

Haunted Humpday lll

Welcome back!

It's the third Haunted Humpday already...

Time is really going quickly.

so what are you ghoulies doing to get ready for the holiday?

Something that really puts me in the Halloween mood

is creating something using Fall colors and elements.

This little witch has her very own sugar skull.

Don't worry, this spider isn't real!

I love getting greeting cards and framing them

if they're super cute..

Sometimes I'll use them in my artwork.

Found these two at the dollar store, 

This one reminded me of the Haunted Humpday button.

 

 This Candle seems to have the pattern too!

I love the scent also..Candy Corn:)

This metal spider was at Ross before I brought him home.

Look!a flashing eyed glitter skull!

 I adore this tiny ornament...She's the first thing I set out.

When I was in junior high 

I read 

The Amityville Horror.

I was truly terrified when I read it...

It's a book that graces my bookshelf

to this day and I occasionally re-read it,

But I always make sure Paul is in town

so I'm not alone when I stop reading for the night.

This book was in the library at my

Elementary school..

my sisters had checked it out

years before and I remember looking at the pictures

when they would bring it home

 I didn't know how to read yet, so the images became 

engraved in my mind.

Once I began school

I would check it out as often as I could

 Almost every story is scary..

but there's two or three that are

really good.

There's one in particular

called The Patchwork Monkey

that is very disturbing, for a children's book.

It begins with the creepy old lady down the block 

and her patchwork monkey doll..

She ends up giving the doll to 

a neighborhood boy.

The boy's older sister is jealous and tells

the little boy that all the patches on the doll

belong to the all the children the monkey has

killed over the years.

That night the parents leave the house

as a storm hits

When the lights go out

The doll terrorizes the little boy

and the older sister

Turns out the sister was right..

The story ends with the little boy

turning into the monkey.

You know..

I never ever had a monkey doll when I was little,

hard to believe huh? haha!

It's always fun to see the Halloween

baking goods...

It never fails to cheer me up, no matter what.

We had sooo much rain here yesterday that

the only thing we could think of to do was 

bake some cookies.

 While we were mixing and baking we put on this classic,

Love having on a spooky movie

and smelling something good in the oven..

you add torrential rain and I'm in heaven! 

This movie is pretty good,  

violent but not too inappropriate.

It seems that as we get further into the season

I hear more and more things!

Things that go bump in the night, I guess..

If you joined us last year you read about how my house

is built on what used to be a graveyard.

My own grandfather worked for the city of Tucson

and he helped clear up the land here and relocate the deceased.

The main problem was that

a long time ago there wasn't a map to where 

everyone was..

He was sure that a lot of them were forgotten

somehow..

while all this was going on...coffins would break and spill

their contents occasionally, it was a major disruption.

As soon as the land was clear

homes started to get built

ours included.

When my parents were going to buy this house

my grandfather told them about the cemetery..

but they didn't really care.

It was after they kept seeing a 

woman in a long white gown

pass though the back gate and cross the yard

that they began to mind.

It was usually in the winter time

after a rain..

she would approach the back yard

go right through the fence

and walk over to the large mulberry tree in the corner.

Sometimes she appeared to hold a candelabra

 other times long strips of fabric.

My mother spoke to some of the neighbors

about this phenomenon,

an older lady ended up telling my mother the 

whole story.

This young lady was happily married 

but her beloved took ill and passed away not long after the wedding.

he was buried here, in the old graveyard..

she was so distraught, that she 

 hanged herself from the tree in the center of the cemetery. 

I never saw this apparition myself, 

 And I hope I never do.

 But sometimes

when I'm outside at night bringing in laundry

I think of the woman in the white dress.

And it takes everything I have not to run inside screaming, lol
