“And above all,
watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you,
because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

October Eve Haunted Humpday..almost!

Here we are again at the last

of September!!

I want to thank everyone that dropped by my
Stephen King party,
We had so much fun making the decorations and setting everything up.
 I really appreciate your comments.

So how was your week?
ours was great..
we found another DVD to watch.
It's really good, & just a little gory.
Check it out if you want to watch something creepy.

" After her young son is killed in a tragic accident,
a woman learns of a ritual which will bring him back to say goodbye,
but when she disobeys a sacred warning,
she upsets the balance between life and death."

Oh, I love these cookie cutters so much!!
one side cuts the shape, the other side is raised,
to stamp the image on the dough.
Found these at walmart.

Look at how fun this is,
at Target for a dollar.
It holds one incredibly soft and yummy cookie.
I love the little tin!

 This was also at Target!
He's weighted on the bottom so he stands on his own.
Don't you think his little face is adorable?

I made this witches cabinet a little bit ago, it's about 6 inches tall.
this is the front view:

The inside..
complete with potions, a spell book, a crystal ball..
everything you need to get everything you want!
 (high pitched cackle)

 Back :

Helena made this jar of eyeballs..
she used ping pong balls
a spooky label
and an empty pretzel container.
We got all of these supplies from the 99 cents store.

By now you know how much I love
creating with Lisa Kettell Designs..
This is a
China Doll head.
She's plain white and you can paint her up however you want.
All of Lisa's products are very lightweight and
easy to paint, glue & glitter.

I created Madame Leota
from the Haunted Mansion.
This is an 8x10 canvas
I used electric blue wool felting for her hair,
acrylic paints, glitter and scrapbook paper.
If you want to take a look at some of Lisa's magical products

It's been cool here in the desert..cool for us anyway,
the highs have been in the 90's and the lows in the 60's
that's pretty much Fall over here.
Either way, come sit next to me.
I have a little story..something that happened to me
a long time ago...
cozy?
good, now listen close..

In 1998, my mother passed away suddenly.
It was right before her birthday in mid April.
The night before her viewing,
after my siblings went home and my dad went to bed,
my good friend asked if I wanted her to stay over and help me with the kids.
my daughter was 7 at the time
my niece, 6 and my nephew, 18 months.
Since my mom was usually the only person to help with them
I gratefully accepted.
My daughter asked if she could go with my friend to pick up some pajamas at her apartment across town.
I let her go but stayed home myself because I was worried abut my father staying home alone.
I didn't want him to wake up and not find anyone there.
I stood outside by the front door right near the orange tree we had there.
they got in the car,
I waved at my little girl as they backed down the driveway...
It was about 11pm and the neighborhood seemed so quiet
the only sound was the incessant singing of a mockingbird..
being early Spring the night was filled with their songs and chirps.
I remember feeling terrible because my mother adored them.
The scent of the orange blossoms was heavy and sweet.
All of a sudden the birds stopped singing..
I had been gazing up at the stars and began to feel ill at ease.
The quiet was louder than I could take.
Suddenly, my sadness turned into terror. I began getting chills.
I quickly turned to go back in the house
As I grasped the doorknob, I heard a loud noise up in the orange tree,
almost like a large animal had landed on the topmost branches..leaves fell on the ground
and I ran inside..
my scalp actually felt like it was moving on my head.
You know it might sound silly,
you can blame it on my grief, my over active imagination, my loneliness..
but in that moment, I was convinced that a monster was out there in the tree,
a boogeyman, The boogeyman, all dark and winged..grinning maliciously.
He wasn't there to kill or maim, just to scare me..
to show me that my talisman was gone and I was vulnerable to his evil now.
It took almost an hour to calm down completely.
By the time my friend and my daughter arrived home I was better...
still afraid to go out into the darkness, but better, none the less.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and she happened to mention that, after losing a good friend
in a car accident this summer, she had a period of time where she felt very afraid..
not afraid of the deceased,
not afraid she herself was going to die,
just afraid, almost like a primitive fear.
I told this very story and said maybe it's just something
that happens when we lose someone close to us..
what do you think?

Okay the sun is out and the fire is low, so we must go back to our regular day..
I hope you have enjoyed this week's Haunted Humpday.
And I hope you have a spooky week.

see you next time!

A King's Day ( haunted humpday part 2)

It's Here!

It's birthday-day for Stephen King!
Happy 70th Birthday!!!!!

I've spoken about it often and written about it here a few times
but I will revisit why he means so much to me.

The first book of his I read was

I was still a child so I didn't understand much of it.
Staying over at my aunt's house watching 'Carrie"as the late night movie was a different thing all together..
I'm still afraid of the part when her mom lights the house up with all the candles.
I think this song was the reason that scene creeps me out so much!

It seems he has always been with me
in many pockets of time..good and bad.
I had my daughter and needed a book to read in the early stages of labor:
'Salem's Lot"
When I was treated horribly by someone
I read 'The Mist' and forgot why I had been sad in the first place,
Reading 'Everything's Eventual' after I got married and being relieved
someone else was in the room when I got scared.
During a sleepover with my daughter, my niece, nephew and a puppy named Kane..
(all cozy on my bed room floor in sleeping bags)
I read 'The girl who loved Tom Gordon' and knew that was going to be a vivid memory one day.

I reach for his books
for comfort and familiarity
like taking the hand of old friend,
which seems odd at times considering how terrifying his stories usually are.
But
Sometimes his scary is easier to deal with than my scary...

He was with me during
my father's illness and eventual passing a few years ago,
In attorney's office last summer..
In a courthouse last November
In a very scary doctor's office
& just recently, in a hospital room.

I can count on him and he is always there.

I've passed my love for him and his books down to my girls.
Hopefully
they will also find the light in the dark that he brings and learn the lessons that he teaches.

So
the festivities started last night, or rather, this morning at the stroke of midnight..
We were watching Creepshow and heard a light tapping at the window..
well of course it was Danny Glick
waiting to be invited in...

He was the first to arrive..
Then the guests started to pour in..
Church came back, again!

Helena invited Carrie..

and Pennywise 1990

We heard a eerie scraping sound over by the sewer grate
(next to the pantry)

and out popped Pennywise 2017

Mr. Barlow appeared in the kitchen.

and Aunt Sylvia made an appearance too.

aww, even General and the nasty little troll are here!

Here Comes Jordy and his bucket of meteor shit!

It looks like the werewolves arrived..
This one is from the Neibolt house

And this one looks the guy from Cycle of the Werewolf

speaking of which,
This is how they got here...

The manglers are here too, practically knocking down the door!

We decided that it was probably a good idea to feed them all.
So we brought out the food.

Eyeball, anyone?

How about getting lost in a maze cake from the Overlook?

the Children of the Corndogs are pretty tasty too..

Now it's time to sing Happy Birthday!!
I see Annie Wilkes stopped by
and..... shhhh! he didn't want me to say anything but
Stephen King couldn't resist visiting either!
As the guest of honor,
We had him sit at the head of the table.
He heard about this awesome party and could not help himself!

I think the crate cake was what lured him over, haha!

Ok ok
he's made of cardboard but it could happen!!
You never know!
It's his birthday and WE actually got some gifts!
My older daughter and my niece bought us goodies.

Frida Kahlo lipsticks

Halloween socks

CREEPSHOW graphic novel

this solar, wiggly, dia de los muertos toy
(plus a super toasty, fleece Halloween blanket
that is not pictured cause Helena is all wrapped up in it)

Tomorrow night we are going out to dinner and then to watch 'It'
I hope you enjoyed our little celebration.
By now you probably can guess that the King and I
are a bit entwined.
I buy his books and He alters my life : )

...
Although i have no romantic notions towards this man
I do, however occasionally dream of him..
sometimes it's just us, hanging out..talking abut his books..
other times, ok four times,
I have had this recurring dream that we are dancing the Tango.
(I have no idea why that particular dance)
I wake up from these dreams with the song 'Por una cabeza' stuck in my head.
The song is beautiful, so I'm including it in case you want to listen.

and I will leave you with this image of us dancing:

Hey, it's my birthday party for him, I can ask him to Tango if I want!!
it could happen, you never know.

Have an amazing day & don't forget to eat some cake and

 thank you for stopping by!

Haunted Humpday part one...

Happy Haunted Humpday!

It's been a busy week here, preparing for Stephen King's birthday tomorrow!
I hope you will join our celebration.

Our
is going to be a bit shorter than usual.
Part 2 will continue tomorrow.

Guess what?!
We found out walmart had it's first pumpkin delivery last week!
and they're huge!

We baked a cake after we carved this guy up..
I just love funfettii cake.

We watched another scary movie
This one is called

usually, I hate the stupid movies with the shaky camera (found footage)
like Blair witch and paranormal activity, but this one wasn't too bad, someone had sense enough
to let the camera stay still once in a while:)
you can read the plot here.

I've been painting and gluing like a mad woman lately..
but I have a few older projects I want to share this week:

mini shrines and ornaments

Now, I must go continue getting ready for our party!!
(or Part 2 of HH)
If you want to participate in Haunted Humpday or
the King party, you can do so throughout the weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and if you get a chance to visit Thursday
please do!

Bye!!
