Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

November Paper Dress

Dia de los Muertos is on the 2nd of November, and since it is a tradition my family celebrates, I decided on making a dress with a sugar skull image on it.

I also have my paper dress cabinet ready. It was an old corner shelf I bought at a yard sale for 2 dollars...it was a dirty white and had a small divider in the middle of it, which I knocked out with a hammer. The outside was painted hot pink, a coat of turquoise followed, then a coat of dark bronze, I took a steel wool and distressed it. Then a keyhole was added to it.

I drilled a hole in it and fitted in some doweling I'd painted silver.
Silver ribbon wrapped around the end of the dowel then glued to the ceiling keeps it from drooping down with the weight of the dresses.

The inside was "wallpapered" and painted. The chandelier is foam and the mirror is wood appliques painted with acrylics.
There are more paper dresses at Alice and Camillas.
Have a magical night.

  4. Hi Marfi ~ You've made a perfect place to safely store all your dresses! Your latest little black dress is so fun with the pretty sparkly 'belt' cinching in the waist. I like the skull with the heart. It's all so creative! Have a great day!

  7. I have to admit that this is the most beautiful cabinet of all I've seen. Both inside and out, no detail has been left out. I was surprised to learn the chandelier was made of foam. It is lovely.

Speaking of lovely, so is this dress with its sugar skull. They are so popular in Mexico at this time of year. And the dress is so festive and sparkly. I love the belt and flower at the waist. Lots of tradition here. And such a lovely dress for any season.
