“I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at
odd moments,
when they aren't trying to teach us.
We are formed by
little scraps of wisdom.”
-Umberto E
My dad passed away Sunday morning.
He slowed down until he just stopped.
He was so
brave & sweet
His vivid imagination, his love of reading
and his stubborn streak are all things I
recognize in myself.
He Is Not Gone
Ease your grief, he is not gone
For in your heart he lingers on.
His smile, his laugh, his special way,
Will comfort you from day to day.
You'll feel his presence in the breeze
That dances gently through the trees.
And it's his face that you shall see
When you're in need of company.
At any time you can recall
The love you shared...you saved it all.
And really more than anything,
You'll find peace in remembering.

Thank you to everyone that sent positive thoughts,
I've felt a strength to get through this past week
that Ive never felt before....
I'm proud to be his daughter
and it was an honor to care for him
when he needed it.
goodnight Papá

I am so so sorry for your loss. I know this winter has been a struggle for you, and now to loose your father. The poem brought tears to my eyes. My warmest thoughts to you, friend. I wish you all the strength in the coming months.
ReplyDeleteYour strength and your ability to see him in you is a tribute to your father. The poem is correct, he will never not be a part of you. Once again, sorry for the loss and know there is still a candle burning on my altar for you. Oma Linda
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you...

Again, sweet friend, I'm very sorry to read about your Papa. I love that first quote you posted...about how we learned from our father's when they weren't teaching us....very, very true.
ReplyDeleteYou have my deepest sympathy and know your dad will always be with you...I know my Pop's is.
Many hugs,
Georgina

This is such a beautiful tribute to your Papa and I hope you take comfort from having your special time with him to say goodbye. You will always have him near you in your memories and in your heart.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss, Marfi. I know how much you were going through, and I understand completely due to my dad's own physical battle years ago. This January 27th marks 10 years since we waved farewell. What an honor indeed for you to have had the opportunity to care for your dad.
ReplyDeletePeace to you, friend.

He will be around, in your heart, always. Reading the stories of life, watching your steps, hugging her girl when she needs it and when he needs to feel her close. When the Circle turns on your last goodnight, you shall meet again and talk about all things.
ReplyDeleteBe in peace, dear one. I shall keep your dad and you in my prayers.
Know that you will be in my thoughts. Your dad looked like a very good and gentle man.

Oh honey, I have been away from blogging for a few weeks and just found this. You have been on my mind a lot lately. I truly wish I'd have come by sooner. Marfi, your father was an immensely handsome man with eyes as brilliant as the brightest stars. A soul of wisdom and warmth. Your strength of spirit is a beacon to us all. As soon as I leave here I'm going to burn my candle in his memory, and in your love. Mina
